I enjoy talking about science and research with local students from primary to high school. I count myself lucky to be able to mentor undergraduate and graduate students in their teaching, and am fortunate to work with and mentor amazing undergraduates in the lab.
I have framed my teaching philosophy around the idea of balancing challenge and support for learners and instructors. I believe that the goal of higher education is to extend beyond teaching facts, skills and procedures to support development in many areas (among them, intrapersonal, interpersonal, and cognitive). My stance on education is firmly and intentionally rooted in social justice: I believe that good education cannot help but be inclusive, and that learning to recognize the privileges we have is central to gaining and using an education.
